It’s been more than a ‘minute’ since my last post. I’ve been preoccupied with more pressing matters as of late, but discovering a new macaron by accident makes up for the absence.
A missed opportunity at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in downtown SF (we arrived at 5pm-a half hour before it closed) meant finding a place to catch up to escape the SF summer chills. We ended up at Heaven’s Dog, one of Charles Phan’s seven restaurants. I sat down gleefully to see macarons on their bar menu and not just any macarons-gimlet macarons:
They were mini macarons by definition and rather plain looking, but one bite into them revealed a sublime green coloring and a flavor that matched its internal self: gin and lime juice.
Perhaps it’s because I haven’t had a macaron in so many months or because it was a serendipitious surprise, but either way the gimlet macarons are the most unique macarons I have come across yet and the flavoring was a lovely complement to my virgin cocktail-made up of lime, apple juice, ginger among other ingredients.
Perhaps this is the needed inspiration to continue cooking and perfecting my own macarons.
